Ecobee4 with Alexa

Ecobee4 with Alexa

Today as previously teased by Ecobee on social media outlets Ecobee announced its latest iteration to their smart home wifi thermostat.  Its called…Ecobee4!  Those familiar with the Amazon Echo, Amazon Dot, and Amazon tap will be well aware of how Alexa voice control can really help enhance a products functionality.  If your not familiar an example of how you may interact with the new Ecobee4 with baked in alexa would be to say “Alexa set my thermostat to 70 degrees” or “Alexa what is the temperature downstairs?”  Ecobee states that the Alexa functionality will be much more broad than just controlling the thermostat by use of the Thermostats built in speakers and microphone regular users will be able to enlist many more features like having the thermostat by way of alexa read their personalized news briefing and much more.

In my opinion one of the greatest things about this announcement is that Ecobee did not ditch one technology for another.  The Ecobee was one of the first thermostats to offer Apple Homekit Integration in its previous models and instead of scrapping one integration they incorporated both platforms into its device. In a world where tech companies are battling it out for space in your home this is great news for consumers.  The slow drawn out process of getting multiple platforms integrated into one device seems to be finally picking up. Way to go Ecobee you are a great role model for other companies looking to truly change consumers worlds!

Additionally Ecobee announced that they will be broadening their product selection this year by introducing a smart home switch which will also play nice with Alexa.  The switch will offer similar technology as the Ecobee room sensors that can detect presence as well as temperature to help save money by only controlling the climate when someone is home and by averaging out the temperature in your house a benefit that Ecobee has touted for some time.
