Design

Chair Rail

Mock up and design are set for the nursery. The plan as seen in the picture below is to do a three quarters shaker style chair rail on the bottom behind the crib. I’m going to do this  with use of pre-primed 1×3 or 1×4’s. Then paint the entire section of wall in a gloss white to match the rest of the trim in the room.

Accent Feature

On top of the chair rail I am going to do an accent frame in the middle third of the wall.  Filling the inside of the framed section will be some sort of shiplap or hand-scrapped engineered wood.

Shelving

I will be adding 2 floating shelves to both of the outer third sections of the top. These will be to hold decor, fixtures etc.

The crib is called the Hudson Collection by Babyletto.

The Dresser is actually a six drawer from Babyletto and is also apart of the Hudson Collection.

Smart Products

Fibaro Motion Sensor

Fibaro’s Motion Sensor will be placed into the corner to alert us to environment changes such as ambient light, temperature, and of course motion. Check back for my full review on this product soon.

A few Design Decisions Left to Make

I Plan to build some sort of tall book-shelve to the right of the window in the second design photo.  I have in the past made some out of cast iron pipe.  I’m trying to decide if this will look good or if I should use a different materials. Here are the pictures of the ones I have made before.  I was thinking more of a ladder style but what ever I choose I will do another post of step by step how I make it.

Lastly, we remember how much stuff we needed with our last child. So to make managing this a bit better I plan on installing some better closet organization.  Perhaps a modular design like things I have seen at Lowe’s or Home Depot.
